10. sRGB/AdobeRGB/ProphotoRGB comparison

The images of a natural rainbow spectrum on this page can be used to see the difference between images created and rendered in sRGB, AdobeRGB and ProPhotoRGB colour spaces on a wide-gamut display. There are three images. They were all created by photographing real rainbow spectrum created by a shaft of sunlight shining through a glass prism onto a white card in a darkened room. The RAW camera image file was then processed as follows;

The amount of difference seen between the images will depend on the gamut of the monitor being used to view them. If the monitor only covers sRGB color space the three images will look virtually identical. But, if the monitor supports a wider gamut then differences will start to appear between the images. But even then the differences are quite subtle becuase most of the colours in the image of a natural light colour spectrum will lie within sRGB colour space.
